hello!

my name is kat hinson,

and I am a graphic designer and artist. Born and raised in Texas, I currently live near Austin. I have a wide-ranging set of skills in everything from digital illustration and graphic design to theatrical fabrication that allow me to tackle any project that comes my way, and I am continually adding to and developing that skillset. Across all that I do, I apply a sense of fun, an attention to detail, and a desire to improve, so that with each new project I am a better artist, designer, and creator.

With technology changing at an ever-increasing pace, I believe it is necessary for designers to take on the challenge of adapting their capabilities for new mediums, new programs, and the needs of new clients. With five years of experience as a graphic designer for media and news groups, I know the importance of staying current with the needs of consumers and businesses; with another five in entertainment, I have a high tolerance for chaos and uncertainty in high-stress environments. I've worked my entire career in positions requiring strong time management skills and a willingness to react and adapt to changing circumstances. I'm capable, game, and ready to take on whatever challenges come my way.

More than a career, design and art are fields I truly love. I love to create, to watch a project unfold and follow the journey from idea to finished product.
I am at my best creatively when I have an idea and a challenge and the resources to see the work through to the end as I envision it. Some nights find me sketching out a character design or experimenting with creating new textures for future projects. Sometimes that work is purely practical, like coming up with a killer design for a spec deck. Most of the time, it's something in between - a set of digital ads, a brochure, a poster. Logos. Signs. Set design and construction,  large-scale and small-scale painting. As long as I'm Making, I am going to put myself squarely behind a project and give it my all.

That said - when I'm working with a client, their satisfaction is most important to me. While I am passionate about sharing my skills and knowledge, it will never take precedence over the needs of the business or the wants of the client. I have plenty of opportunities to create for myself. If I'm working for you, that work serves your needs above all else.
